How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Lead is responsible for leading the team/shift, directing work and supporting the supervisor with day to day tasks. The Lead also operates our chemical processes and performs production related activities, utilizing their chemical manufacturing knowledge and experience to operate and troubleshoot the plant in a safe and efficient manner. The Lead works in a team environment where collaboration and teamwork are critical to meeting the goals of the business. Ability to work rotating shifts - day and/or nights and weekends, and support other sites as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates shift activities to meet production schedule for the shift and performs shift rounds multiple times per shift to ensure execution of plans.

  • Creates an environment that fosters team and individual empowerment.

  • Leads Start of Shift meetings to communicate priorities & general team communications.

  • Provides on-shift technical/process subject matter expertise.

  • Enhances shift skills and knowledge through coaching on process and equipment.

  • On-shift resource for quality issues.

  • Works with Production Supervisor to facilitate the integration of new shift team members, and establish Performance Measurement KPIs

  • Re-enforce the work process and work instructions are followed.

  • Ensure all Environmental, Safety and Health standards and regulations are met or exceeded.

  • Signs work permits

  • Uses IMS as a guide for work activities

  • Coaches team members on value assessments of tasks and service requests and facilitates first line conflict resolution

  • Provides technical/process subject matter expertise and focuses on quality related opportunities

  • Facilitates skill development of team members through coaching on process and equipment.

  • Participates in process related root cause or failure analysis. Knows how to drill down on business issues using the Sologic RCI methodology to identify root causes and then to put effective corrective actions in place.

  • Ensures work requests for maintenance or other services are clearly defined, scheduled, and completed.

  • Ensures startup and shutdown tasks align with plant operation activities.

  • Interacts with the Sales & Operations planning process. Provides input to the process and executes the results

  • Balances quality, productivity, manpower, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Works with supervisors to continuously improve in all areas.

  • Maintains proper inventory levels- both product and raw materials and manufacturing

  • Acts as the first responder for equipment, process and general production issues. Uses best judgment to resolve these issues while taking the input and advice of operators that are more qualified to operate a particular process. Contact appropriate off-duty personnel when additional guidance is needed

  • Actively participates on ALAM's emergency response (ER) team including as an ER entry team member which requires wearing of a tight fitting full face respirator

  • Creates end of shift report

  • Cross-trained on approved functions

  • Independently initiates activities and responsibilities that contribute to the achievement of goals and consistent and defect-free results

  • Researches, develops and incorporates new ideas and process improvements into work

  • Work rotating shifts - day and/or nights and support other sites as needed

  • Must be and remain clean shaven at all times

  • Wear a full face tight fitting respirator and a fully encapsulated (Level A) ER suit, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), or any other tight-fitting and/or supplied air respirators (SAR)

  • Successfully complete all assigned and required training

  • Ability to roll cylinders- Rolling cylinders requires an individual to tilt a cylinder slightly with one hand, and use the other hand to move the cylinder forward by rolling it

  • Fitness for duty, including but not limited to: ability to lift 50 pounds and have the ability to climb ladders

Required Qualifications/Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 3+ years of experience in a chemical process operations environment + qualified on process

  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with basic computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs.

  • Performance-based Leadership skill set

  • Incident Commander Training - ICS200 minimum

  • Demonstrated ability to think and plan ahead and prepare action plans to achieve results

  • Qualified in process for minimum one year

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems

  • Demonstrated understanding of plant fire systems and alarms

  • Completed Hazmat technician level training from a certified body

  • Understanding of IMSand Plant Gas Monitoring system

  • Understanding of the plant specific Cylinder Handling Programs (PF, ERP, Cylinder Handling, PM)

  • Fitness for duty, including but not limited to: ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders

  • Ability to medically pass a respiratory test and physical test in order to wear a full face respirator as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in a leadership role, preferably in a specialty chemical manufacturing environment

  • Sologic Root Cause Investigation experience

  • Track record of measuring performance against goals and standards (KPIs)

  • 5S, LEAN manufacturing experience
