PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

We are looking for an accomplished and driven Assistant Controller to partner with the Controller to lead the accounting team at Institute on Aging. This role will oversee and execute the accounting operations, financial reporting, annual audit, tax return preparation, events financial management, system implementation, and accounting procedures and internal controls.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee month and year end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely results, including but not limited to the preparation of journal entries and reconciliations
  • Provide supervision and guidance to the accounting staff, ensure that accounting processes are performed accurately and efficiently, and provide training as needed
  • Play a key role in our quarterly and annual review and audit process, including managing key deliverables to internal and external auditors
  • Assist in preparation of tax return
  • Prepare all required tax filings and support for insurance policy reporting, including General Liability, D&O and property and general risk management
  • Maintain and oversee accounting procedures and processes to ensure that they are performed consistently and accurately
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to financial management, budget, and accounting
  • Drive continued process improvement with systems and processes with the ability to work cross-functionally within the organization to implement improvement initiatives
  • Work with business partners to manage compliance with corporate accounting policies, procedures and controls
  • Review contracts, understand revenue recognition implications
  • Provide coaching, training and guidance to new and existing staff as well as career mentorship on an ongoing basis
  • Monitor workflow and productivity to ensure deadlines are met
  • Provide analysis and reports to management as requested
  • Ensure all transactions are reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Prepare fluctuation analyses for balance sheet and expense accounts
  • Be a part of various initiatives spanning multiple departments
  • Other projects as necessary

PHYSICAL & LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to comprehend complex materials.
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and in writing to executive leadership.

EDUCATION:BS degree in Accounting or Finance

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:

  • A history of progressive accounting management experience
  • A thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Minimum of 10 years prior experience, preferably with non-profit accounting experience
  • 5-7 years management experience
  • Work with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, demonstrating sound judgment
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others, building and maintaining relationships
  • Ability to maintain calm and reason, dealing well with interruptions and competing priorities throughout the day
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams on complex projects from start to completion
  • Attention to detail is a significant focus of this role; handling those details quickly, correctly, and efficiently
  • Proficiency in NetSuite or experience with other financial/business systems
  • Proven understanding of statistical principles, management reporting and business process improvement techniques.
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel (v-look-up, pivot tables, charts and graphs)

COMPENSATION:

Range: $ 143,134.00 - 168,392.50/annual

This amount is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee, which is always dependent on actual experience, education and other factors.

This range does not include any additional equity, benefits, or other non-monetary compensation which may be included.
