Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

We are actively seeking an experienced professional to join our team as Director of Governmental and Regulatory Affairs at Calpine. You will help to lead our efforts in navigating the complex landscape of government relations and regulatory affairs on issues of energy and climate policy, electric and natural gas regulation, and wholesale electric market design. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of California and Western state energy policy, strong advocacy, communication, and analytic skills, and a proven track record of successful engagement with government entities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to build positive relationships with government officials, agencies, and legislators.
  • Represent the company's interests in meetings, hearings, and other forums before the CPUC, CEC, CARB and other state agencies.
  • Stay informed about legislative and regulatory developments impacting the energy industry.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on regulatory requirements and regulatory and legislative developments.
  • Independently scope and execute highly complex special assignments.
  • Advocate for policies that support the company's goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with industry associations and trade groups to amplify advocacy efforts.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for governmental and regulatory affairs.
  • Assess potential risks and opportunities related to regulatory changes.
  • Advise senior leadership on the potential impact of government policies.
  • Develop analyses of policies.
  • Interface with outside counsel and consultants.
  • Assist in other corporate projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, public policy, law, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in government affairs, regulatory affairs, or a related field in the energy industry. Experience within a state agency desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy policies, regulations, and political landscapes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key external and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in advocacy, strategic planning, and issues management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Some travel required.

Salary Range - $162,349.00 to $206,993.00
