Varian Medical Systems is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our sustaining engineering team. The individual would contribute in the area of PCB development, with an emphasis on sustaining Varian's large portfolio of PCBs. The ideal candidate would be a self-driven individual with a passion for electronics and a desire to work on a product that changes people's lives.

In this role, you will:

  • Modify the designs of multilayer, mixed-signal PCBs comprised of analog, digital, power, communication, and mixed-signal circuits
  • Investigate problematic PCB designs in the installed-base, identifying root-cause and updating designs based on findings
  • Work with external contract manufacturers to understand yield issues in PCB production, identifying root-cause and finding solutions
  • Monitor PCB component life-cycles, and proactively update designs to replace end-of-life components
  • Define PCB layout input and assist the designer with the layout process
  • Write technical documentation including verification test plans, and execute test plans for the engineering change order process
  • As time allows, participate in new development of PCBs

The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:

  • BS or MS 5-7 years in field of Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Able to demonstrate a solid understanding of analog, digital, power, communication, and mixed-signal ADC/DAC circuits
  • Experience taking multiple complex boards through the layout process in a development or sustaining role, providing detailed layout constraints to the PCB designer
  • Ability to define and develop test procedures and to perform design verification
  • Experience in a lab environment, using oscilloscopes and other test equipment.
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills

What will set you apart:

  • Experience designing for medical equipment
  • Experience designing circuits for motion control systems with motor drivers and feedback sensors
  • Experience with power distribution
  • Experience using OrCad schematic capture
  • Experience using Cadence Allegro or Mentor Expedition SW tools
  • Experience designing FPGAs using VHDL
  • Experience using LabView

The base pay range for this position is

Min $95,900 - Max $172,600

The pay wage range shown is based on the job posting's primary location. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications, and location.
