How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Operations Chemist role within the Production organization of ALAM is part of a larger team focused on producing specialty products for ALAM. He/she will serve as a specialist for the Glovebox and Speciality Hood production activities, liaising closely with production engineering to ensure best practices impacting quality, reliability and safety are implemented, while additionally producing the products with the purity and quality required for our customers. Career development to align with the Production / Process Engineering organization and/or CTD/PD.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Subject Matter Expert & directly involved in the production of specialty products, utilizing glove box and hood production best practices.

  • Understanding of the chemistry utilized in the process he/she is responsible for, and how it may interacts with the manufacturing environment (microcontamination control)

  • Conduct various routine operations such as synthesis, purification and analytical processes

  • Trains operators on individual operations and explains the underlying purposes and importance of them.

  • Independently run routine operation of analytical instruments such as GC.

  • Ability to troubleshoot production equipment, procedures and its environment, and proposes improvements based on lessons learnt. Reaches out to other SMEs in AL and shares learnings

  • Performs routine maintenance-related tasks (ex. PM preparation / cleaning, leak identification, etc.) and flags abnormal situations

  • Follow the guidelines and best practices related to lab notebooks, data storage and backup

  • Write work instructions, communicate experimental summary and conduct safety reviews

  • Utilize, teaches and share Glovebox best practices with production team, and ensure consistently carried out during operation

  • Successfully completes all assigned trainings and tasks

  • Ability to roll cylinders- Rolling cylinders requires an individual to tilt a cylinder slightly with one hand, and use the other hand to move the cylinder forward by rolling it.

  • Fitness for duty, including but not limited to: ability to lift 50 pounds and have the ability to climb ladders.

  • Actively participate on ALAM's emergency response (ER) team including as an ER entry team member, which requires wearing a tight fitting full-face respirator

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Chemistry (or equivalent) with 2+ years industrial experience, preferably with glove box utilization for high purity production

  • Experience with the handling of air and moisture sensitive molecules, and hazardous and pyrophoric chemicals including both gasses and liquids

  • Good communication skills

  • A team player that puts safety first

  • Motivated to gradually take on additional responsibilities and to continue education


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with scaling up synthesis to KG scale and above is a major plus

  • Good mechanical skills with experience building and assembling manifolds, reactor systems, and distillation set-up

  • Experience with handling and packaging solids is preferred

  • Experience with electronic materials for semiconductor applications is highly preferred

  • Experience with analytical techniques such as GC
