OVERVIEW:

The Divisional Music and Worship Arts Director is responsible for the development, promotion, and administration of music and worship arts throughout the Golden State Division. Leadership will be given in ministries and events initiated and conducted on a divisional level, while support is provided for programs at local units.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and implement a plan to encourage, grow and resource all music and worship arts efforts in the Golden State Division
  • Create, conduct and coordinate all divisional music groups, including, but not limited to: Divisional Band, Divisional Youth Band, Divisional Chorus, etc.
  • Participate in and support all divisional events with musical/worship arts elements and audio visual support as directed by divisional administration
  • Participate in and coordinate musical ensembles for events as requested by divisional adminstration and corps units
  • Be a resource to the corps music and worship arts efforts across the division. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Training, support, consultation and other assistance of local music and worship arts efforts
    • Plan and implement music and worship leadership seminars, workshops, music days, etc. at corps, regional and divisional levels.
    • Visit units throughout the Golden State Division to assess their musical and worship arts needs, encourage the local leadership and assist in growing the ministry of the corps. Assist the Corps Officer create a plan for music and worship arts development. This includes Sunday and mid-week visits
  • Serve as programmatic lead for Music Camp, including but not limited to:
    • Recruit and select instructional staff
    • Organize curriculum, daily schedules, etc. in conjunction with the Youth department and camp leadership
    • Develop publicity materials in conjunction with the Youth and Graphic Arts Departments
    • Support the camp staff in the spiritual development of campers
    • Secure special guests
    • Organize and chair the music camp planning committee
    • Support camper musical/worship arts growth by assisting the corps with follow up ideas and tools
  • Create, maintain and curate all necessary inventories and libraries, including but not limited to: instruments, equipment, brass, vocal, musicals, drama resources, solo and ensemble music, accompaniment library, music education and leadership materials, congregational praise and worship music resources, etc.
  • Support in the management and correct usage of CCLI licenses at all units
  • Lead, encourage and support corps/divisional involvement in USA Western Territory music and worship arts events, groups and opportunities. This includes, but is not limited to Encore, Western Music Institute, Worship Arts Retreat, Territorial Youth Band, Territorial Youth Chorus, etc. Participate on staff at events as requested by divisional/territorial leadership
  • Serve as liaison and support the event planning of any visiting Salvation Army musical groups
  • Work with the Territorial Music Secretary in carrying out the objectives of territorial leadership and training
  • Serve on the Territorial Music Committee and participate as needed. Disseminate information from this group to divisional administration and corps units as necessary
  • Participate in event planning, committees and other meetings as directed
  • Travel throughout the Golden State Division and USA Western Territory as needed
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • CA driver's license (required)
  • 21 years of age (required)
  • Uniformed Salvationist, soldiering in the Golden State Division (required)
  • Experience as a Local Officer (required)
  • High level proficiency on vocalist and an instrument (required)
  • Bachelors degree in music or music education (preferred)
  • Experience teaching music (preferred)
  • Experience in gospel arts, brass, vocal and contemporary avenues of music and expression
  • Experience in generate reports, maintain files, create databases, correspondence
  • Experience promoting programs and events through social media, publications and other means as necesssary
  • Experience creating, maintaining and adhering to a budget

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to encourage the spiritual development of others through music and worship arts and exhibit personal spiritual growth and leadership in all areas
  • Ability to multi-task, project plan/report and execute events
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and maintain poise under pressure
  • Ability to work as a part of a team as well as work independently
  • Ability to lead large and small groups effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)

COMPENSATION: $80,000 - $90,000 Salary

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Modern office equipment and relevant software. Knowledge of ProPresenter, PowerPoint and other music based software is a plus.
  • Various musical instruments and equipment
  • Audio Visual equipment
