Job Summary

The Center for Pain Medicine nurse practitioner provides care for patients with multiple and/or complex pain management needs. They will collaborate with clinic physicians and staff to manage controlled and non-controlled medication prescribing, monitoring, and follow up visits/care. They will assist with the neuromodulation program including pre and postop visits as needed.

The nurse practitioner uses advanced clinical skills to assess, evaluate, and formulate treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic pain. They use clinical expertise to assist other providers and patients in promoting or achieving optimal health, serve as a consultant or expert resource for nursing and clinical support staff; facilitate an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to the treatment of patients, and promote research to improve our clinical nursing practice. They provide assistance to patient inquiries via phone, secure messaging, or in person; as well as actively participating in weekly patient care coordination/conference meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years' experience working as a licensed nurse practitioner in an ambulatory clinic or acute care hospital setting within the last 3 years
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as a nurse practitioner managing chronic pain
  • Active BLS certification
  • ACLS certification required prior to start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to three (2-3) years experience with managing Intrathecal Pumps.
  • One to two (1-2 ) years experience working with EHR (EPIC - APEX).
  • Nursing Certification in Pain Management.

License/Certification

  • California Driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
o Accepted Certifications for this position: AGNP-C or A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGACNP-BC, AGPCNP-BC, ACNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNPC-AG. Link to UCSF NP Certification Table for reference:
  • Hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Completion of a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Hold current AHA BLS
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
