You enjoy working outdoors. You just happen to be a great communicator and have excellent negotiation skills. You are an experienced leader who is dependable and works hard. You may have a degree in Forest Management, be a Registered Professional Forester, or have the equivalent experience working with road or logging contractors. In your previous employment you may have been a contractor yourself. You should have at least 5 years of experience in road construction and maintenance as it applies to California Forest Practice Rules and the Timber Harvest Plan process.

What the job is:

This position has the responsibility of managing the California Timberlands contract road construction, maintenance, and upgrading with a focus on contractor safety and operational cost effectiveness. You will work within the framework of the California Forest Practice Rules, Green Diamond's Habitat Conservation Plans, and Timber Harvest Plan provisions.

Listed are examples of the work this role performs:

  • Encourages a safe working environment around operations by incorporating a focus on safety into all job functions.
  • Provides oversight to approximately 25 separate Timber Harvest Plans operated annually across 400,000 acres. There are generally 1-7 individual units associated with each THP. An initial site visit is made to every unit to reconcile field conditions with options outlined by Company or consulting forestry staff.
  • Evaluates projects to identify and recommend the most cost-efficient method of construction.
  • Provides informative feedback to plan-writing RPFs concerning road layout and location limitations.
  • Offers time for consultation with plan-writing RPFs to assess road related engineering perspective during the THP layout phase.
  • Negotiates/bids road work at competitive industry prices.
  • Supervises the construction and maintenance of roads and landings to assure timely access for harvest activities and efficient transportation of logs.
  • Prepares contract rate notices/bids. These documents require the incumbent to seek a positive confirmation of status from the Wildlife, Botanical, Surveying, Forestry, Geology, and IFM departments before any activity can begin.
  • Conducts pre-operational meetings with plan writing forester and project contractor.
  • Provides contract project expectations with clarity to achieve the "no violation" policy in accordance with AHCP standards.
  • Coordinates with the RPFs, Botany Coordinator, and Wildlife Field Coordinator to assure a thorough understanding of all THP requirements and impart the details of these requirements to current contract capacity.

Where you'll work:

You will be responsible for planning and administering contract road crews on Green Diamond's privately held forest property, located in Humboldt county along the Northern California coast. Your office is in Crannell, CA nestled in the forest where redwoods meet the Pacific Ocean.

Compensation Details:

Annual salary range: $67,840 - $101,760 per year. The wage is just one part of Green Diamond's total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive an annual company financial bonus and the opportunity to receive a performance-based bonus, candidate referral bonuses, and spot bonuses.
