Established in 1900, Mead & Hunt is a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm. Our transportation group is seeking a highly motivated full-time surveyor for our Charleston, WV office. This position will work mostly independently and will conduct surveys throughout West Virginia.

Responsibilities include understanding of and ability to operate a robotic total station; performing courthouse research; conducting topographic surveys and boundary surveys; and construction site staking. Must be able to work long hours and occasional weekends and be able to travel alone to job sites. This position requires heavy lifting and working outside in a variety of conditions on a regular basis. Travel to construction sites throughout the state is an essential function of this position; a valid driver's license is required. Extended hours and overnight stays may be required.

The successful candidate will have: an associate degree in land surveying or civil engineering AND at least 6 years of relevant experience OR a bachelor's degree in surveying or civil engineering AND at least 4 years of relevant experience; experience with map filing law and its application to right-of-way document and property surveys; and, a Professional Land Surveyor license in the state of West Virginia is also required.

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

  • Familiarity with data collectors and/or robotic total station
  • Experience with GPS devices
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Land Development Desktop
  • Experience conducting topographic and/or boundary surveys
  • Experience conducting courthouse research related to surveys
  • Construction staking experience
  • Experience performing survey work alone
