Position Summary:


The Senior Technical Writer isresponsible for researching business requirements for PG&E ITproducts and services, creating, and maintaining documentation and flow charts for use by IT Help Desk teams, development team, product managers, and business stakeholders. Deliverables include user manuals, runbooks related to back-end data flow operations, playbooks for use in specific types of processes; Application Programming Interface (API) documentation, position papers, and other forms of documentation.

You will work closely with (data) engineers, product managers, scrum masters, product owners, help desk teams, and leaders to ensure that the documentation is accurate, easy to understand, and meets the needs of target end users. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with excellent writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office once a month and or based on business needs.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this rolewill beplaced between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese factors.This job is also eligible to participate inPG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $98,000

Bay Area Maximum:$146,000

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gather and analyze business requirements from stakeholders
  • Visually map end to end process or product flows as needed, to align with related or enterprise-wide processes or products (as needed)
  • Develop and maintain business requirements documentation
  • Establish acceptance criteria with developers and testers for documentation
  • Write clear and concise technical documentation for a variety of audiences, including technical and non-technical users
  • Work with development team and product managers to gather requirements and develop documentation plans including schedules to support ongoing review and updates on a quarterly or annual basis to ensure that content remains current
  • Create and maintain documentation in a variety of formats. Documentation examples include user manuals, API documentation, position papers, and online / digital content
  • Use a variety of tools and technologies for ongoing documentation creation, management, and access and use by multiple teams such as SharePoint, content management systems, authoring tools, and collaboration tools
  • Stay up to date on latest technologies and trends, industry standards and best practices for technical writing
  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels for status, milestone reporting, daily stand-ups and more.
  • Willingness to collaborate and/or mentor other technical writers

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree in technical writing, English, communications, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience as a technical writer developing technical and non-technical documentation
  • Two years or more experience using visual mapping programs including Visio or related types of tools

Desired

  • Certification in editing
  • Experience or familiarity with energy or utilities industries including safety
  • Experience with a variety of documentation tools and technologies including but not limited to: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel), Adobe.
  • Experience with a variety of writing styles and formats.
  • Experience working with IT teams, data engineers, product managers and product owners.
  • Familiarity with Jira
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies and software engineering principles, with an emphasis on data-related development teams
  • Experience with user acceptance testing (UAT), usability analysis, especially in drafting scenarios for use with UAT, and User Experience (UX).
  • Experience with Agile Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) development methodologies.
  • At least two years' experience developing learning materials
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated, able to manage schedule, priorities, and deadlines in support of delivering quality work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to learn recent technologies and software
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
