Position Overview

Pregis is executing a plan to maximize enterprise value while protecting the environment. Our sustainability goals are rooted in our net zero ambition and include transitioning our operations to zero waste and transforming our product portfolio to be 100% recyclable, reusable, or made from a minimum 30% recycled content.

The Program Manager - Sustainable Products, will work closely with product management, new product development, and operations to execute on our sustainable products roadmap. Specifically, this person will lead our efforts to incorporate recycled and renewable raw materials into our products as a holistic, global, cross-business unit program. This role will report directly to the Chief Sustainability Officer, as part of the global sustainability team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define and execute the sustainable products strategy, roadmap and identify the KPI's required to achieve more advanced use of recycled content. Primarily focused on our plastics (polyethylene) based products and alternative materials in development
  • Collaborate with the Value Creation and New Product Development "NPD" teams with the ability to translate product requirements, specifications, and processes to the shop floor
  • Work closely with the plant process engineering team "hands-on", to execute material qualifications, process changes, specification updates, and data collection
  • Work with NPD on advanced equipment development and qualifications, or other associated development projects aimed at achieving our recycled content goals
  • Lead execution of individual projects and larger-scale programs to coordinate the implementation of material changes to existing products and the work with new product development on new products that focus on more circular solutions.
  • Implement and utilize specification management system (SpecRight), KPI's or other data to facilitate the implementation of process and/or material changes that do not adversely affect the performance of manufacturing equipment or outcomes (i.e. scrap, quality, throughput)
  • Work with manufacturing and process engineering to measure and report impact of processing mechanically recycled plastic and/or biobased polymers from extrusion through finished product. Develop forward looking plans to maintain quality and operational efficiencies in equipment that processes recycled materials
  • Support procurement teams in the evaluation, selection, on-boarding, and qualification of new raw material vendors
  • Establish usage targets by machine type and monitor utilization of asset base to ensure recycled content goals are achieved consistently
  • Work with NPD and Operations to identify Capital investment opportunities and support evaluation, justification, and implementation of capital projects
  • Extensive functional expertise in:
    1. Extrusion Technology: deep expertise in plastic film extrusion technologies (blown and cast polyethylene), including screw/die designs and blending techniques; experience in coatings and/or fiber a plus
    2. Plastic Resins Knowledge: detailed understanding of various plastic resins, rheology and material testing methods used to formulate products and compatibility with various components
    3. New Product Development: understanding of development processes, such as stage gate, and proven experience participating in successful product launches
    4. Process Engineering: experience working directly with manufacturing teams to qualify new materials, modify processes, or engage in new product launches
    5. Project and Program Management: proven ability to lead complex projects and programs across multiple facilities, products, and/or technologies
    6. Data-based Decision Making: strong competencies in data collection and analysis, to be used as the basis for decision making, determination of technical requirements, and understanding of performance of products and manufacturing processes
    7. Influence and Communication: extremely strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to influence at different levels of the organization without direct authority

Other qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Sciences, Plastics or related field
  • Minimum eight (8) years work-related experience in engineering or manufacturing field
  • Ability to travel 25%-50%
