DESCRIPTION

The Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center is San Diego's 1st Comprehensive Cardiovascular Center providing heart and vascular programs in one central location. Global leader and international referral center in Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy (PTE). The Sulpizio Cardiovascular center is a heart and lung transplant center with the only lung transplant program in San Diego County. The Ventricular Assist Device program boast some of the best outcomes in the nation, and provides therapy with 5 different devices.

This department's patients include heart and lung transplants, PTE patients, CABGs, valves, TAVR's, and Ventricular Assist Devices including Total Artificial Hearts. Stroke and Vascular Surgical patients will be on this floor as well. This unit utilizes advanced training and skills to take care of high acuity and complex patients.

The Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.

Responsible for unit daily operation, employee recruitment, performance evaluation, progressive discipline and staff development. Develops a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives.

Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager. In addition may need to do direct bedside care as needed to support optimal patient outcomes within the unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Three (3) years of related experience including two (2) years of recent inpatient adult ICU RN experience.

  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.

  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

  • Must have ability to function in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, while demonstrating professionalism, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be able to navigating multiple competing priorities. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.

  • Ability to at all times adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MSN.
  • Clinical area certification or Nursing Administration Certification (i.e. CCRN).
  • Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic critical care experience.
  • Charge Nurse and/or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
  • Experience with performing quality and process improvement projects
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations and on call based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $112,100 - $216,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $53.69 - $103.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
