We are gearing up for a very exciting period in our long history and currently have an opening for a Lead Instructor in Pharmacy Technology at our Salinas campus. 

Overview:

The Lead Instructor is responsible for working in conjunction with the Program Director in the assigned discipline to support the overall quality of teaching and learning including curriculum, faculty, and students within their assigned discipline. This position will work with academic programs enrolling fewer than 100 students, and will generally supervise fewer than 10 instructors within the subject area.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Lead Instructor works in conjunction with and under the Program Director for his/her discipline to:

  • Recruit, screen, hire, supervise, train, develop, observe, mentor, coach, and evaluate faculty as needed to maintain the overall quality and integrity of teaching and learning within the assigned discipline.
  • Actively participate in the college’s student retention management program and achieve annual campus quarterly retention targets.
  • Assist in planning and implementing student activities, including Student Orientation and Graduation.
  • Provide input for the quarterly Master Schedule including identifying course offerings and scheduling students for appropriate classes as needed to maintain an effective and efficient course schedule that keeps student on track for graduation and falls within budgeting guidelines.
  • Implement the Heald plan for the assessment of student learning outcomes and support services including participation in systematic program review.
  • Assign faculty to courses, staff classes with current instructors, and provide substitutes when necessary.
  • Assist Program Director in working with students for any requested schedule changes prior to add/drop period of quarter.
  • Develop a positive classroom learning environment to ensure high rates of student success.
  • Provide regularly scheduled academic advising to students within the program.
  • Participate in curriculum design and development activities including actively working with CAO and the other campus faculty and Program Directors and/or Lead Faculty as needed to maintain the overall quality and integrity of the curriculum.
  • Implement new or revised curriculum on campus including text book selection and selection of equipment and supplies.
  • Support program-level compliance with all internal academic policies and procedures and all applicable accrediting standards, state licensing requirements, FERPA, and all other applicable external rules and regulations.
  • Recruit participants and actively participate in employer advisory committees and other activities designed to solicit input into curriculum and build relationships with the employers and potential employers or Heald graduates.
  • Respond to industry needs within campus’s region with community involvement and the development and management of student internships.
  • Assist the Program Director with development of annual program budget and operating within budget guidelines.
  • Identify and develop externship sites and extern agreements. Monitor and supervise externship activities and ensure compliance with extern site agreements.


Job Specifications: 

  • Bachelor's of Science in Pharmacy, or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree, and a minimum of three years of full-time work in the pharmacy practice area in which they intend to teach, e.g., Community, Institutional, Aseptic Technique.
  • Current PTCB-certified Pharmacy Technician or Registered/Licensed Pharmacist, with an active license in good standing from the state in which they intend to teach.
  • Registered membership in a national professional association and the state component. Excellent communication skills
  • A desire to support and motivate students throughout their academic career at Heald
